We have entered a mixed team into the Salisbury tournament this weekend.
The team is Neil, Chessie, Harriet, Kelly, Anji and Chris.
The Asteroids lost before their matches at Erlestoke prison in a vey hot sports hall. The team of Richard, Andrew, Neil, Chloe, Anji and (playing only her second match of the season) Mel played well although still lack an aggressive edge. The score in the first match was 25-13 25-19 25-12 with Andrew the MVP while the second match ended 11-25 17-25 22-25 with Anji the MVP.
Calne Comets lost against Devizes 6X in a close final. The Comets welcomed back Andy Smith from injury, although he was only fit enough to play as libero meaning Neil Bentley continued playing in the middle. The team had their chances particularly in the second set but lost 17-25 25-27 23-25. The team was Matt, Andy, Cliff, Tom, Steve, Neil, Andrew, Chloe and Anji.
The Comets reached the final of the Dave Kinder Knockout Cup for the first time when they beat Trowbridge 20-25 28-30 25-18 22-25 in a closely contested semi-final at the Olympiad. The Comets squad was Matt, Steve, Richard, Serena, Chloe, Anji, Neil, Cliff, Andrew and Rad.
The Asteroids had an exiting match against Olympiad B on Monday evening. Richard, Serena, Jack, Anji, Andrew and Neil saved set points in the first set then had a set point themselves before losing the set 30-28. Olympiad changed their line-up for the second set and initially it reaped dividends as they took a commanding 16-6 lead but the Asteroids almost recovered and lost the set 25-21. Helped by a run of seven consecutive points on Neil’s serve, Asteroids dominated the third set to win 25-10. Over the entire match the Asteroids outscored Olympiad 74-65.
The Comets started well against Wootton Bassett Aces winning the first set 25-11 but could not maintain the advantage as Cliff, Matt, Tom, James, Lida, Steve and Stuart narrowly lost the second set 23-25 before crumbling 11-25 in the final set. Stuart was the MVP.
A young team of Anji, Chloe, Matt, Chessie, Dan, Jack and Kelly were in action today in the ladies and juniors league. Their opponents were Salisbury, Devizes and Wootton Bassett. The team struggled to get going against Salisbury, played better against Devizes and finally won a set against Wootton Bassett.
Cosmos were defeated 16-25 13-25 13-25 by Wootton Bassett Aces this evening at the leisure centre. The Cosmos team of Helen, Stuart, Chris, Thomas, Dan and Jon put up a determined fight and when they were able to receive well then they were able to keep up with the Aces.
